FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The game seems to be very slow for me. Is there anything I can do to speed it up?
Checking the 'Remember Me' box can help, as does allowing cookies.
The game is optimized for Fire Fox, IE has a reputation of having a VERY slow implementation of java script. Also small amounts of RAM can make a big difference as the most of the game takes place on your machine. You can turn off the animations in your browsers tools-preferences section, which will speed the game somewhat at the cost of a loss of the cool animations.
I've played through a bit on my first city and now I want to start again. (My goblin 'hoards' aren't working out they way I'd planned ;-). Is there a way to start a new game off? I'm stuck in the middle of a battle at the moment...
Well, Pretty much you have to finish the battle. But IF you really are going to restart, probably the quickest way is to bail all your troops to the edge of the screen and withdraw. Barring that (if a unit is surrounded), commit suicide with them and let the enemy kill them off without fighting back. When you get ready to restart be sure to check out the New Players Guide before starting.
The date displayed next to the weather does not update for me except after battle.
I think you're seeing the discrepancy between the world date, which advances by weeks, and the region clock, which advances by hours up through the week.
SCOUTS AND SPIES
Do scouts have a function and why do i never get any (it says +20) and whats the use of spies?
Scouts are used on the World screen to find out information about other cities. In the very near future, scouts will affect the distance you can "see" things on the region map. Spies are used the same way, but for spying on other cities.
What is city health and why does it decline? How do you make it increase ?
Health is almost out of your control. Keep your city morale up, and don't overwork your people.
It would be nice to be able to clear land for development rather than just getting the message 'you can't build here'.
Try using "DELETE" (the red X) on the hex 1st and then build your item.
STARTING A GAME
The problem is, I haven't actually placed my city on the region map yet, but I cant seem to find a way to undo my selection on the main map. so I cant move my city up one region
You should be able to go back to the World screen to pick a new hex. But, if not, deleting your choices so you can restart would take only a minute.
I just checked. According to the City Tab, I have 171 individuals in my militia yet going into battle I have 5 militia units.
Your militia is rounded up when it is generated for a battle. Dwarves have 40 per unit, so since your militia is over 160, it will be rounded up to 5 units of 40 -- 200 militia.
After my first combat, my Cavalry unit is pretty beat up. But how do you reinforce a unit? I've only been able to find the create new unit even after looking through the help.
In the Equip list, there is a "Number" text box, which can be changed (to larger values). This is the equivalent of Reinforce/Disband.
Does AI on or off actually do anything? In the battles I've fought I sometimes have no control over my units. If I want to give them orders myself what should I choose?
Your militia starts with AI On, all the rest with AI Off. If you want to manage your militia, turn their AI Off.
Does the structure in the last line of development screen (war college, academy and so on) have a use in the game? and if yes what??
These increase the maximum level of your henchmen and units. Henchmen levels are 1/5 main char level, plus 4. With an Educational Development, you get another +4 for the related henchmen.
Is there is a limit and a cost to conscript??
There is no limit to the number you can conscript however conscripting costs your city Morale and Loyalty.
WITHDRAWING FROM BATTLE
Thinking I might cop all the XP for my main character, after killing off all the enemy (giants) and healing everybody up, I withdrew everybody but my main character. Imagine my dismay to fail to defend, and only get 21 mil STILL distributed amongst ALL my units. -2.3 to my win/loss and hits to morale and loyalty.
Withdrawn units count against you (as defeated) the same way they do for the enemy.
If a unit or henchman is level maxed do the points he earns in a battle get distributed to those who can take them or are they wasted?
The experience points are divided the same, whether the unit is maxed out or not.
How are experience points allocated?
The actual experience allotment is the bonus squared times the total experience of the enemy, divided by 2500. That is adjusted by experience bonus, and divided up between characters and units based on level, with your main character getting 10 shares per level, henchmen 5 shares per level and units 1 share per soldier per level. The experience is calculated after the casualties are assessed.
